Anlam Filiz

Anlam Filiz is a second year doctoral student in Anthropology at Emory University, where she is also working on completing her Certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Sociology from İstanbul Bilgi University in 2009. She received her MA degree in Comparative Studies in History and Society at Koç University in 2012. Her MA thesis analyzes conceptualizations of gender equality as a component of middle class identity in Turkey. Her current research for her dissertation focuses on how entrepreneurship amongst middle class migrants from Turkey in Germany acts as a ground to negotiate with institutions and discourses of integration and works as a strategy of upwardly mobile individuals to differentiate themselves from lower class migrants.
